San Sai Hospital Resumes Medication Distribution Following Shortage

On September 15, 2026, San Sai Hospital in Chiang Mai province began distributing medications that were previously unavailable due to a supply shortage. According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the hospital had faced a crisis involving outstanding debts to pharmaceutical companies, which resulted in patients receiving incomplete prescriptions and requiring multiple return visits to the facility.

To address the situation, the hospital has cleared its outstanding debts and coordinated with other medical facilities to borrow necessary supplies. As of September 15, the hospital has opened a dedicated distribution point near the former emergency room to provide the missing medications to affected patients. On the first day of this initiative, over 300 patients and their families arrived to collect their outstanding prescriptions. This temporary distribution point will remain operational until September 25, 2026. Patients who previously registered for mail-order medication delivery will continue to receive their supplies via post as scheduled.

For residents and long-term visitors, this development marks a significant step toward stabilizing local healthcare services. While the hospital reports that the situation is gradually improving, it remains to be seen how quickly full inventory levels will be restored across all departments. Patients are advised to bring their original medication envelopes and identification cards to the designated collection point to receive their remaining prescriptions.
