Injured Century-Old Turtle Found in Chai Nat
A large black turtle, estimated to be over 100 years old, was discovered injured in Chai Nat province after likely being struck by a vehicle.
On September 15, 2026, residents in Chai Nat province discovered a large black turtle weighing over 20 kilograms near the Tha Chai-Nang Lue road. The animal, estimated to be over a century old, sustained a cracked shell, which locals believe occurred when it was struck by a large vehicle while attempting to cross the road. After the incident, the turtle crawled into a nearby rice field before being rescued by a local resident, who is currently providing care at a home in Moo 14, Nang Lue sub-district.
For travelers and residents in the area, this incident highlights the risks posed to local wildlife on rural roads, particularly during periods of movement. While the turtle is receiving care, the full extent of its injuries and its long-term prognosis remain to be confirmed by veterinary professionals.
Following the discovery, the site became a focal point for local residents, many of whom gathered to observe the animal and search for patterns on its shell, which some interpreted as lucky numbers for the upcoming September 16 lottery draw. While the turtle remains a subject of local curiosity, it serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and wildlife awareness in the region.
