Thai Government Announces Solar Rooftop Subsidy Program

According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Thai Ministry of Industry is finalizing a government-backed initiative to support the installation of solar rooftop systems across 1.5 million households. Minister of Industry Varawut Silpa-archa stated that the program, which offers a subsidy of 50,000 baht per household, is expected to open for registration by mid-October 2026.

For residents and property owners, this initiative aims to reduce long-term electricity costs. However, the Ministry is placing a significant emphasis on safety and quality control. The Thai Industrial Standards Institute (TISI) has been instructed to oversee the entire supply chain, including the certification of solar panels, inverters, wiring, batteries, circuit breakers, fuses, and control equipment. The government intends for this high demand to also stimulate local SME production and job creation within Thailand.

While the program represents a major policy push to lower utility burdens, several details remain to be confirmed. Prospective participants should wait for the official registration guidelines to be released in mid-October to understand the specific eligibility criteria and the technical requirements for the systems. As the program rolls out, residents should ensure that any installations they pursue meet the TISI standards mentioned by the Ministry to guarantee both safety and the validity of their investment.
