Thai Authorities Seize Illegal Meat Additives in Eight-Month Operation
A joint operation by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Central Investigation Bureau has resulted in the seizure of over 32 million baht in illegal meat additives and livestock.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, Thai authorities have concluded an eight-month crackdown on the use of illegal meat additives, specifically beta-agonists, in the beef industry. The operation, led by the 'Phra Phirun' Agricultural and Food Security Center in coordination with the Consumer Protection Police Division, aimed to prevent the widespread distribution of contaminated meat.
Officials reported that the investigation uncovered the presence of these additives in beef, livestock farms, and animal feed. As a result, authorities have seized 967 head of cattle and various related products, with a total estimated value of 32,366,240 baht. Sarawut Nueangchamnong, Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, stated that the initiative was carried out under the directive of Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit to combat illegal agricultural practices.
