Investigation Underway Following Oil Leak in Bangkok's Rama 3 Area
The Democrat Party has acknowledged the Ministry of Energy's response to an oil leak in the Khlong Toei and Yan Nawa districts, as authorities work to identify the source.
On September 15, 2026, the Democrat Party (DP) expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Energy’s efforts to address an oil leak discovered beneath the surface of Rama 3 Road and Chuea Phloeng Road in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei and Yan Nawa districts. According to Khaosod Online, DP spokesperson Pongsakorn Kwanmuang confirmed that the Ministry has begun inspecting underground cavities where oil seepage was detected.
The DP had previously submitted five proposals to the government, two of which are now being addressed: identifying the specific source of the leak to determine liability and compensation, and conducting 'Oil Fingerprinting' to chemically match the leaked substance with specific companies. The party is urging the Ministry to publicly disclose these laboratory results to ensure transparency.
For residents and those traveling through these areas, the situation remains under investigation. The DP has raised concerns regarding the technical standards of the ongoing safety checks, specifically questioning whether the current one-hour pressure test for underground pipelines is sufficient. They are advocating for an extension of these tests to a duration of two to eight hours to ensure long-term infrastructure safety. As of now, the exact origin of the leak and the full extent of the environmental impact remain to be confirmed by the Ministry of Energy.
