Thai Government Launches 'One Map Water' Initiative for Enhanced Disaster Warning
Four government agencies have signed an MOU to integrate water data into a unified 'One Map' system, aiming to improve disaster response and early warning capabilities.
On September 15, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister Yoschanan Wongsawasdi announced a new collaborative effort to streamline water management and disaster preparedness in Thailand. During a ceremony at Government House, an MOU was signed between four key agencies: the Thai Meteorological Department, the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), the Hydro-Informatics Institute, and the Big Data Institute.
This initiative, dubbed 'One Map Water,' seeks to consolidate fragmented data into a single, accessible platform. The project aims to provide a real-time dashboard that offers advanced warnings for floods and other water-related disasters. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the initiative was prompted by observations made during flood response operations in Nan province, which highlighted critical gaps in data coordination.
For residents and travelers, this development is significant as it promises more accurate and timely alerts regarding environmental hazards. By centralizing information, the government intends to improve the speed and precision of its disaster response efforts.
