Wasp Infestation Plagues Wat Pa Sila Thong in Buriram
The abbot of Wat Pa Sila Thong in Buriram has requested expert assistance to remove over 100 wasp nests that have infested temple facilities, causing safety concerns for monks and visitors.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on September 15, 2026, the abbot of Wat Pa Sila Thong in the Samet sub-district of Buriram province has issued a public plea for help. The temple is currently facing a severe infestation of wasps, with over 100 nests identified across the temple grounds, including the kitchen pavilion and the crematorium.
Phra Bunpheng Jakkadhammo, the abbot, stated that the wasp population has expanded rapidly over the past two years. While monks have attempted to deter the insects, the nests continue to multiply, leading to frequent stings among both the clergy and local residents attending funeral services. Currently, monks and novices are taking precautions by keeping their living quarters tightly sealed.
For residents and travelers, this situation poses a potential safety risk, particularly for those visiting the temple for ceremonies. The presence of such a large number of nests makes the area hazardous for individuals who may be allergic to stings or those unfamiliar with the temple's layout. While the abbot has requested professional intervention to safely remove the nests, it remains to be confirmed when or if specialized pest control services will be deployed to address the infestation. Visitors are advised to exercise caution if visiting the area until the situation is resolved.
