Phuket MP Urges Immediate Action on Kathu-Patong Expressway
Phuket representative Chalermpong Saengdee is calling on the government to expedite the long-delayed Kathu-Patong expressway project to address chronic traffic issues.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, Phuket MP Chalermpong Saengdee of the People's Party has demanded that the Thai government accelerate the development of the Kathu-Patong expressway. The project, which aims to improve connectivity between the two areas, has been anticipated by local residents for over 30 years.
MP Chalermpong emphasized that the current mountain route suffers from severe traffic congestion, which negatively impacts local residents, the tourism industry, and the overall economy of Phuket province. He noted that he has repeatedly raised the issue in the House of Representatives to seek updates and push for progress. The project has faced significant delays due to multiple revisions regarding construction designs, tunnel specifications, and the bidding process for contractors.
For residents and travelers, this project is critical as it promises to alleviate the difficult transit conditions currently experienced when crossing between Kathu and Patong. While the necessity of the infrastructure is widely acknowledged, the timeline for construction remains uncertain.
