Thai Ministry of Finance Considers Budget Reallocation for Economic Stimulus
The Ministry of Finance is reviewing a 200-billion-baht budget reallocation to support the 'Thai Helps Thai Plus' stimulus program.
According to Khaosod Online Thailand, the Ministry of Finance is currently evaluating the status of loan-funded economic measures. Permanent Secretary Lavaron Sangsnit announced that a committee will meet this week to review three key initiatives: the 'Thai Helps Thai Plus' program, the 'Thai Travel Thai Plus' tourism scheme, and a residential solar rooftop installation project.
Regarding the 'Thai Helps Thai Plus' initiative, officials noted that maintaining current payment rates would require approximately 40 billion baht per month, potentially exhausting existing funds within a single month. Consequently, the Fiscal Policy Office is currently designing the criteria for a second phase of the program, and the specific payment amounts or structures have not yet been finalized.
To address potential funding shortfalls, the Ministry indicated that legal provisions allow for the reallocation of funds between the two 200-billion-baht tranches established under the 400-billion-baht loan act. For residents and travelers, this development is significant as it highlights ongoing adjustments to government economic relief measures. While the government is exploring ways to sustain these programs, the final scope, eligibility, and duration of the second phase remain subject to further official confirmation.
