Thailand Tourism Sees Weekly Decline as Short-Haul Markets Pause
Thailand recorded 439,069 international arrivals between September 6-12, 2026, marking a 7.15% decrease from the previous week.
According to data reported by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports announced that Thailand welcomed 439,069 international visitors during the week of September 6–12, 2026. This figure represents a 7.15% decline compared to the prior week, averaging approximately 62,724 arrivals per day.
The Ministry noted that the short-haul market experienced the most significant impact, with 299,114 arrivals, reflecting a 9.64% drop. Officials attribute this temporary slowdown to travelers delaying trips to coincide with upcoming regional holidays. These include Malaysia Day on September 16, Japan’s 'Silver Week' from September 19–23, and the Chuseok festival in South Korea. Despite this weekly dip, the tourism sector has generated a cumulative revenue of 1 trillion baht.
For travelers and residents, this data suggests a brief lull in tourist density at major attractions, which may result in shorter queues and more availability in the short term. However, it is expected that visitor numbers will rebound as these regional holidays commence. While the current trend is described as a normal seasonal fluctuation, the long-term impact on total annual tourism targets remains to be confirmed as the Ministry continues to monitor arrival patterns throughout the remainder of the month.
