EGAT Advances Plans for Small Modular Nuclear Reactors

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has established a dedicated unit to oversee the development of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. EGAT Governor Narin Phao-wanit stated that the project is included in the draft 2026 Power Development Plan (PDP 2026). The initiative aims to integrate a 300 MW nuclear power capacity into the national grid, with officials estimating a 10-year timeline for technological and legal preparation.

For residents and travelers, this development signals a long-term shift in Thailand’s energy infrastructure strategy. EGAT is currently collaborating with the Ministry of Energy, the Office of Atoms for Peace, and other national agencies to align the project with environmental and safety standards.
