On September 14, 2026, House Speaker Sophon Sarum, accompanied by parliamentary officials and engineers from the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, inspected the 'Ginny' cafeteria located on the B2 floor of the Parliament building. This inspection followed an incident on September 13, 2026, where two gypsum ceiling panels fell.
According to Khaosod Online, the engineering team confirmed that the building's primary structure remains sound and unaffected by the incident. The investigation identified the cause as moisture accumulation resulting from temperature fluctuations in the air conditioning pipes, which led to condensation dripping onto the ceiling panels.
For residents and visitors, this incident highlights maintenance issues within public infrastructure. While the immediate area has been repaired and engineers have installed larger screws to reinforce the ceiling panels, the event serves as a reminder of the ongoing maintenance challenges in large-scale government facilities.
