On September 14, 2026, House Speaker Sophon Sarum, accompanied by the Secretary-General of the House of Representatives and engineers from the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning, conducted an inspection of the 'Ginny' cafeteria located on the B2 floor of the Parliament building. This visit followed an incident on September 13, 2026, where two ceiling panels fell.
According to Thai Post, the Department of Public Works and Town & Country Planning confirmed that the primary structure of the building remains sound. Engineers identified the cause of the collapse as moisture accumulation originating from air conditioning pipes, which compromised the ceiling fixtures. In response, maintenance teams are currently accelerating repairs, which include replacing existing screws with larger ones to ensure greater structural stability.
For residents and visitors, this incident highlights ongoing maintenance efforts within major government facilities. While the primary structure is reported to be safe, the event serves as a reminder of the importance of infrastructure upkeep in high-traffic public areas.
