Former Rock Singer Scammed in High-Profile Event Fraud
Former 'Motif' lead singer Sit Sakonwaree has reported being defrauded of millions of baht by an acquaintance who falsely used a politician's name to secure event services.
On September 14, 2026, Sit Sakonwaree, the former lead singer of the rock band 'Motif' who now operates an event management business, sought assistance from the 'Sai Mai Tong Rod' organization. Sit reported that a former colleague deceived him into organizing events by claiming they were associated with a prominent politician. Trusting their past professional relationship, Sit proceeded without an upfront deposit, only to find that the individual disappeared after the events concluded without paying the agreed-upon fees.
Sit stated that he had to use his personal funds to pay his staff. The fraud appears to be widespread, as other victims have emerged, including parents and approximately 10 youth football teams who were allegedly scammed out of registration fees for tournaments, with some individual losses reaching 300,000 baht. The perpetrator reportedly used the politician's name on promotional materials to gain credibility. Sit confirmed that he contacted the politician mentioned, who denied any involvement and stated their name was used without authorization.
For residents and visitors, this incident highlights the importance of verifying the legitimacy of event organizers, especially when high-profile names are invoked to solicit services or participation fees.
