Authorities Investigate Wastewater Discharge at Cha-am Beach
Following reports of wastewater being released into the sea at Cha-am Beach, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has launched an investigation and ordered strict monitoring of water quality.
On September 14, 2026, Suchart Chomklin, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, announced an investigation into reports of wastewater discharge at Cha-am Beach in Phetchaburi province. The incident, which occurred on September 12, was traced to a contractor performing maintenance at a local wastewater pumping station. According to reports from Khaosod Online, the contractor installed a temporary pump and discharged water from the system without notifying supervisors.
Upon discovery, the Wastewater Management Authority ordered an immediate halt to the discharge and the suspension of all work. Local authorities, including the Cha-am Municipality, have initiated legal proceedings regarding the unauthorized release. Initial inspections by the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources found no dead marine life, no foul odors, and normal seawater coloration.
For residents and travelers, this incident highlights a temporary operational failure rather than a systemic environmental disaster. While the immediate water quality appears unaffected, the Ministry has ordered continuous monitoring to ensure no long-term ecological damage occurs.
