Thai Stock Market Consolidates Amid Political and Global Economic Uncertainty

The SET index faces a consolidation phase as investors monitor a key Election Commission ruling and react to U.S. inflation data.

According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is currently undergoing a consolidation phase. Analysts at Krungsri Securities have set the resistance levels between 1,615 and 1,622 points, with support levels identified between 1,587 and 1,573 points.

This market movement is driven by two primary factors. Internationally, higher-than-expected U.S. core inflation data has led investors to increase their expectations for further interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserve. Domestically, market participants are adopting a cautious approach while awaiting a decision from the Election Commission (EC) regarding the Senate selection collusion case, which is expected to be announced this afternoon.

For residents and travelers, while daily stock fluctuations may not have an immediate impact on daily life, the prevailing uncertainty often leads to a more conservative investment climate. Analysts currently suggest focusing on defensive sectors, specifically banking, healthcare, and telecommunications, as these areas may offer more stability during periods of market volatility.

It remains to be confirmed how the Election Commission will rule on the Senate case and what the subsequent impact on domestic political stability will be. Investors are advised to monitor official announcements for further clarity on the political landscape.
