NEDA Clarifies 2027 Budget Allocation Regarding Cambodia Projects

The Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA) has issued a formal clarification regarding a 30.72 million baht allocation in the 2027 fiscal budget. According to Prachachat Business, the agency responded to public criticism by stating that these funds are not a direct subsidy to the Cambodian government. Instead, the amount represents interest rate compensation for existing financial obligations.

NEDA explained that the budget is designated for repayment to the Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Bank) concerning two legacy infrastructure projects: the Route 67 road construction and the Stung Bot border checkpoint. The agency emphasized that Cambodia is currently repaying the principal loan, and the Thai government is fulfilling its commitment to cover the interest rate differential as previously agreed. NEDA warned that failing to allocate this budget could negatively impact EXIM Bank’s financial operations.

For residents and travelers, this clarification serves to distinguish between new foreign aid and the fulfillment of long-standing bilateral infrastructure agreements. While the agency has provided a breakdown of the financial mechanism, the long-term repayment schedule for these specific infrastructure projects remains a matter of ongoing administrative management.
