Kasikorn Research Center Maintains 2% Growth Forecast for Thailand in 2026
Thailand's economic growth is expected to slow in the second half of 2026, with Kasikorn Research Center projecting a full-year expansion of 2%.
According to a report by Prachachat Business, the Kasikorn Research Center has maintained its 2026 economic growth forecast for Thailand at 2%. The center anticipates a deceleration in the second half of the year, projecting growth of 1.7% compared to the 2.4% expansion recorded in the first half.
This projected slowdown is primarily attributed to weakening private consumption, which is being pressured by persistent energy prices. The report also highlights broader financial challenges, noting that banks are currently navigating a cycle of debt, while Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) are experiencing a significant downturn.
For residents and travelers, this economic climate may signal a period of reduced consumer spending and potential shifts in the local business landscape. While the forecast provides a baseline for the year, the actual impact on daily life—such as changes in service availability or price fluctuations—remains to be confirmed as the year progresses. Observers will be watching to see if these economic headwinds intensify or if policy interventions can stabilize the SME sector and consumer confidence. As of now, the 2% annual growth target remains the official projection from the research center.
