Uthai Thani Farmer Faces Double Hardship After Theft
A farmer in Uthai Thani province has reported the theft of 300 kilograms of cassava, compounding his losses after a recent drought damaged his rice crops.
On September 13, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that Mr. Samai, a 52-year-old farmer from Ban Rai District, Uthai Thani, is struggling following a series of agricultural setbacks. Mr. Samai stated that his 10-rai rice field recently suffered significant damage due to drought, with half of the crop lost.
To supplement his income, Mr. Samai had been cultivating cassava on a separate 10-rai plot located approximately seven kilometers from his home. According to his report, thieves entered the field and harvested approximately 300 kilograms of nine-month-old cassava. The perpetrators reportedly pulled the plants, broke off the tubers, and packed them into ten fertilizer sacks before fleeing the scene.
For residents and visitors in the area, this incident highlights the economic strain currently affecting local agricultural communities. While the farmer suspects the theft was committed by individuals familiar with the area, the identity of the perpetrators remains unconfirmed.
