Bangkok to Implement Adaptive Traffic Control at Taksin Bridge and ICONSIAM
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt announced the deployment of an adaptive traffic control system to alleviate congestion near Taksin Bridge and ICONSIAM starting September 14.
On September 13, 2026, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, accompanied by the Khlong San District Council member, conducted an on-site inspection of traffic conditions surrounding the Taksin Bridge and the ICONSIAM shopping complex. Following observations of persistent congestion in the area, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has decided to adjust the traffic light management system.
Starting at 6:00 AM on September 14, 2026, the city will implement an 'Adaptive Control' system for traffic signals at these locations. This technology is designed to adjust signal timing dynamically based on real-time traffic flow, rather than relying on fixed intervals.
For residents and travelers, this change is intended to improve vehicle throughput and reduce wait times during peak hours. While the BMA expects this adjustment to mitigate the current bottlenecks, the long-term effectiveness of the system in managing the high volume of traffic near the riverfront remains to be confirmed.
