Organ Donation Saves Five Lives Following Tragic Accident in Phetchabun
A 40-year-old man who suffered fatal brain injuries in a motorcycle accident has donated his organs, providing life-saving transplants for five patients.
On September 13, 2026, Phetchabun Hospital honored the late Mr. Marvin, a 40-year-old resident of Nakhon Sawan, for his final act of altruism. According to Khaosod Online, the man was transferred to Phetchabun Hospital after a motorcycle accident in Khao Kho resulted in a brain hemorrhage. Despite intensive medical efforts, he was declared brain-dead.
Following his passing, his family fulfilled his previously stated wish to become an organ donor. Medical staff successfully harvested his corneas, kidneys, and heart valves, which have been allocated to help five patients awaiting transplants. Dr. Sirichai Sorathatchathamrong, Deputy Director of Medical Affairs at Phetchabun Hospital, presented a certificate of honor and a wreath from the Thai Red Cross to the family in recognition of this contribution.
For residents and visitors, this event highlights the ongoing critical shortage of organ donors in Thailand, where nearly 10,000 patients are currently waiting for kidney transplants alone. While this donation provides hope for those on waiting lists, the medical community continues to emphasize the importance of donor registration.
