Search Underway for 75-Year-Old Man Missing in Thap Lan National Park
Authorities are searching for a 75-year-old man who went missing while foraging for bamboo shoots near Thap Lan National Park, with search efforts currently hampered by heavy rainfall.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, a 75-year-old man identified as Mr. Phakdee from Na Di District, Prachin Buri, has been reported missing since September 11, 2026. The man reportedly left his home at approximately 3:00 PM to forage for bamboo shoots in the dense forest area bordering Thap Lan National Park.
After he failed to return by nightfall, local residents and family members initiated a search. On September 12, a coordinated team consisting of Thap Lan National Park officials, local administrative authorities, and rescue workers tracked his path approximately two kilometers into the forest. The search team discovered a bag containing bamboo shoots, a backpack, and clothing belonging to the missing man near a stream. Park Chief Pravattisart Chanthep stated that searchers had been following footprints and signs of broken branches leading along the waterway.
However, the search operation was temporarily suspended on September 12 due to heavy rainfall in the area. For residents and visitors, this incident highlights the inherent risks of entering dense, remote forest areas, particularly during the rainy season when conditions can change rapidly. It remains to be confirmed whether the missing man is still in the vicinity or if he has moved further into the park. Authorities are expected to resume operations once weather conditions improve.
