On September 11, 2026, a medical incident occurred at a hospital in Yasothon, Thailand, involving a one-year-old boy. According to Khaosod Online, a nursing assistant was attempting to remove an IV line using scissors to cut through tape and gauze when he accidentally severed the tip of the child's right index finger.
Following the incident, the child was transferred to Sunpasitthiprasong Hospital in Ubon Ratchathani. A specialized surgical team performed two emergency operations, successfully reattaching the fingertip by 1:00 AM on September 12. Medical staff noted that the procedure was complex due to the small size of the child's blood vessels. The patient remains under close observation due to pain, distress, and side effects from intubation.
The hospital involved has provided a gift basket and 4,000 baht in compensation to the family. However, the family reports that the nursing assistant responsible has not yet taken personal responsibility for the error. The family has filed a police report and intends to file a formal complaint with public health authorities.
