Police Dismantle Mobile Phone Fraud Ring in Bangkok
Authorities have arrested six individuals involved in a scheme involving fraudulent mobile phone installment contracts and the illegal resale of locked devices.
On September 11, 2026, officers from the Metropolitan Police Division 8 announced the arrest of six suspects linked to a criminal network specializing in mobile phone fraud. According to Khaosod Online, the operation involved two distinct groups: four individuals who acted as fraudulent installment buyers and two individuals responsible for purchasing and reselling the locked devices on the black market.
The scheme reportedly involved hiring individuals to sign up for mobile phone installment plans, after which the devices were immediately diverted for unauthorized resale. Police are currently conducting further investigations to identify and prosecute additional supporters or financiers involved in this illicit network.
