Thai GI Products Expand Global Reach at Singapore Expo

The Department of Intellectual Property recently showcased six Thai Geographical Indication (GI) products in Singapore to boost international market presence.

According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Thai Department of Intellectual Property (DIP) under the Ministry of Commerce is actively promoting local Geographical Indication (GI) products to international markets. From August 21 to 24, 2026, the department facilitated the participation of six Thai agricultural and food GI producers at the APAC Food & Beverage Expo 2026, held at the Singapore EXPO.

This initiative aimed to transition local identity into tangible economic value by connecting producers directly with consumers. During the three-day event, the DIP organized business matching sessions with 15 Singaporean importers and buyers. Furthermore, the department initiated discussions with digital platforms Shopee and TikTok Singapore to explore potential e-commerce expansion for these local goods.

For residents and travelers, this development highlights the growing international recognition of Thailand’s regional specialties, which may lead to increased availability of high-quality, authentic Thai products in global markets. While the initiative successfully generated sales during the expo, the long-term impact of these digital platform partnerships and the specific volume of future export growth remain to be confirmed. The DIP continues to focus on elevating the status of GI products as a key driver for local economic development.
