Chiang Mai Health Officials Confirm No Lockdown Despite COVID-19 Cases
Chiang Mai health authorities have ruled out a lockdown following 4,549 reported COVID-19 cases, classifying the virus as an endemic disease.
On September 11, 2026, Dr. Waranyu Jamnongprasatporn, the Chiang Mai Provincial Public Health Chief, addressed the current COVID-19 situation in the province. According to data collected between January 1 and September 9, 2026, Chiang Mai has recorded 4,549 cumulative cases, representing an incidence rate of 252.89 per 100,000 people.
Health officials have explicitly confirmed that there will be no lockdown measures implemented. The provincial health office currently classifies COVID-19 as an endemic disease, noting that the nature of the current outbreak resembles that of the common flu. The highest incidence rates were reported in Mueang Chiang Mai, San Sai, Doi Saket, San Kamphaeng, and Hang Dong districts, with the 30-39 age group showing the highest number of infections. Notably, there have been no reported fatalities associated with this period of the outbreak.
For residents and travelers, this update clarifies that daily life and travel operations in Chiang Mai remain unaffected by restrictive health policies. While the situation is currently managed as an endemic condition, individuals should continue to monitor local health announcements for any changes in guidance.
