Social Security Office Reduces Stake in Bangchak Corporation
Thailand's Social Security Office has sold 3 million shares of Bangchak Corporation (BCP) following a significant rise in the company's stock price.
According to a report from Prachachat Business, the Social Security Office (SSO) has reduced its shareholding in Bangchak Corporation (BCP) by selling 3 million shares. This transaction lowered the SSO's stake in the energy company from 10.14% to 9.94%.
The sale was executed as BCP’s stock price reached approximately 58 baht, marking its highest valuation in 29 years. The divestment generated proceeds of roughly 174 million baht for the Social Security Fund. The details of the transaction were disclosed by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Thailand.
For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this move reflects a strategic adjustment by a major institutional investor capitalizing on market performance. While the sale highlights the current high valuation of a prominent energy firm, it does not directly impact the daily operations or services provided by Bangchak gas stations or its retail outlets.
It remains to be confirmed how the Social Security Office intends to reallocate these funds and whether further divestments from other holdings are planned in the near future. Observers of the Thai stock market may continue to monitor the SSO’s portfolio adjustments as indicators of institutional sentiment regarding the energy sector.
