A mobile phone shop owner in Thailand has confirmed that a viral video showing him throwing water at an employee was a genuine reaction to a theft, not a staged social media stunt.
A video circulating on social media showing a shop owner throwing water at an employee has sparked significant online debate, with many viewers questioning if the incident was a staged publicity stunt. On September 11, 2026, the owner of the 'Nakleng Mue-Thue' mobile shop, identified as Mr. Keng, spoke to Khaosod Online to clarify the situation.
Mr. Keng confirmed that the incident was authentic and stemmed from the discovery that the employee had allegedly stolen several iPhones from the shop, resulting in a total loss of approximately 200,000 baht. According to the owner, the video was recorded by another staff member during a moment of frustration after he had been teaching the employee customer service skills. Following the viral spread of the footage, the employee’s relatives reportedly provided partial financial compensation to the shop. The matter has now been handed over to the company’s legal team for further action.
