Thai SEC Mandates Licenses for Financial Influencers
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced that content creators and influencers providing investment advice must hold a valid license.
According to a report by Prachachat Business on September 11, 2026, the Thai Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has established strict guidelines for financial influencers and content creators. The regulator stated that any individual who provides investment recommendations or actively solicits investments must possess an official license. This move is part of a broader effort to curb fraudulent investment schemes that have increasingly targeted the public.
SEC Deputy Secretary-General and spokesperson Anek Yooyuen noted that the agency has received nearly 4,000 requests for consultation regarding investment-related risks so far this year. The SEC intends to enforce these regulations strictly against those who fail to comply.
For residents and expatriates in Thailand, this development is significant as it aims to increase transparency and protect individuals from financial scams often promoted on social media platforms. While the SEC has clarified the requirement for licensing, it remains to be seen how the agency will monitor the vast landscape of digital content creators and what specific enforcement actions will be taken against those currently operating without proper authorization. Residents should remain cautious when following financial advice from social media personalities and verify their credentials before engaging in any investment activities.
