Former Abbot Arrested Following Embezzlement and Misconduct Allegations
Police have arrested the former abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan, Atichote Dhammavaro, on charges of embezzling 92 million baht, following reports of inappropriate conduct.
According to Khaosod Online, police from the Crime Suppression Division have arrested Atichote Dhammavaro, the former abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan in Ayutthaya province. The arrest follows allegations of embezzling 92 million baht in temple funds. Authorities also detained a woman identified as 'Sika Ae,' who was reportedly close to the former abbot. During the operation, police seized significant amounts of cash and gold.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Somdej Saraban, Deputy Superintendent of the Crime Suppression Division, stated that the investigation began in mid-July 2026 following anonymous complaints. A second anonymous tip received on August 25 included a flash drive containing digital evidence that corroborated the initial reports of misconduct. This evidence included footage depicting inappropriate sexual behavior between the former abbot and the woman.
