Thailand Launches 'Regenerative Tourism' Initiative
NXPO and DASTA have signed a memorandum of understanding to transform Thailand's tourism industry through science, research, and innovation.
On September 11, 2026, the Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO) and the Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA) announced a formal partnership. The two organizations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at shifting the national tourism model toward 'Regenerative Tourism.'
According to Thai Post, the initiative seeks to leverage higher education, science, research, and innovation (HEI) to create economic value while simultaneously restoring natural environments and improving the quality of life for local communities. By integrating scientific research into tourism management, the project intends to move beyond traditional sustainability toward a model that actively improves the destinations it serves.
For travelers and residents, this shift may eventually lead to more eco-conscious travel experiences and better-managed tourist sites that prioritize environmental health and community well-being.
