Korat Living Library and Observatory Left Abandoned for Over a Decade
A 90-million-baht facility in Nakhon Ratchasima remains inaccessible to the public after ten years of neglect.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on September 11, 2026, the 'Korat Living Library and Observatory,' located within the Triam Udom Suksa Nomklao Nakhon Ratchasima School grounds, has fallen into a state of severe disrepair. Despite an initial investment of nearly 90 million baht, the facility has been effectively abandoned for over a decade.
Reporters visiting the site observed that the two-story library building and the adjacent observatory are now cordoned off with metal fencing. Security personnel have been stationed at the entrance to prevent access, citing issues such as damaged lighting poles. Local residents expressed frustration, noting that the site was once a functional space for students and the public to view documentaries and enjoy the surrounding gardens.
For residents and visitors, this situation highlights a significant loss of public infrastructure that was originally intended for recreation and education. While the facility was previously open for school groups and community activities, it is currently completely off-limits. It remains to be confirmed why the reported maintenance issues, such as the damaged electrical infrastructure, have not been addressed by the relevant authorities to restore the site to its intended use. The lack of transparency regarding the long-term closure continues to be a point of contention for the local community.
