EGCO Group Finalizes Sale of Power Plant Stakes to J-POWER
EGCO Group has completed the sale of a 49% stake in two Thai power plants to J-POWER for 2.76 billion baht to boost liquidity and fund future investments.
On September 11, 2026, the Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO Group) announced the successful divestment of a 49% stake in the Ban Pong (BPU) and Khlong Luang (KLU) power plants. The shares were acquired by J-POWER Holdings (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a strategic international partner, for approximately 2.765 billion baht.
According to EGCO Group President Thawat Chai Samranwanich, this transaction is part of the company’s 'Asset Recycling' strategy. The immediate capital injection is intended to enhance the company's liquidity and support a broader investment plan valued at 30 billion baht.
For residents and those monitoring the Thai energy sector, this move signals a shift in EGCO’s portfolio management as it seeks to reallocate capital toward new projects. While the financial transaction has been finalized, the specific details regarding how these funds will be distributed across the company’s upcoming 30-billion-baht investment pipeline remain to be confirmed. As reported by Khaosod Online Thailand, this deal marks a significant step in EGCO’s ongoing efforts to optimize its operational assets while maintaining its role as a key player in the national power infrastructure.
