Tourism Ministry Proposes 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' Stimulus Scheme
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is preparing to submit a 4-billion-baht domestic tourism stimulus package to the Cabinet, aiming to generate 20 billion baht in economic activity.
On September 11, 2026, Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul announced the development of the 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' project. Designed to boost domestic tourism during the high season spanning the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027, the proposal seeks Cabinet approval for a 4-billion-baht budget.
The scheme intends to offer one million entitlements to travelers. Under the proposed terms, the government would subsidize actual accommodation costs up to 2,000 baht per entitlement. If a hotel stay exceeds this amount, the traveler must cover the difference; if it is lower, the government will pay the actual cost. Additionally, the plan includes travel coupons valued at 1,500 baht for major cities and 2,000 baht for secondary cities.
For residents and travelers, this initiative could significantly reduce travel expenses during the upcoming peak season. However, the Ministry is currently finalizing measures to prevent price gouging by operators to ensure the program's effectiveness. As of now, the project is still in the proposal stage and awaits formal Cabinet approval. Further details regarding the application process and specific implementation dates remain to be confirmed by the government.
