Wat Thong Nopphakhun Celebrates New Ecclesiastical Rank for Phra Ratchawachirasaramethi
The Buddhist community in Bangkok recently honored Phra Ratchawachirasaramethi following his royal appointment to a new ecclesiastical rank.
On Saturday, August 29, 2026, a formal ceremony was held at Wat Thong Nopphakhun in the Khlong San district of Bangkok to celebrate the royal appointment of Phra Ratchawachirasaramethi (formerly Phra Sri Theeraphong). The monk, who serves as the Ecclesiastical District Chief of Rat Burana, Assistant Abbot of Wat Thong Nopphakhun, and Headmaster of the Wat Thong Nopphakhun School of Buddhist Studies, was elevated to the rank of 'Phra Ratchawachirasaramethi.'
According to Khaosod Online, the event was presided over by Somdet Phra Wachirasitthachan, a member of the Sangha Supreme Council and Abbot of Wat Sa Ket. The ceremony included a procession of monks, government officials, and disciples who gathered at Thep Wimon Witthaya Prasit School within the temple grounds to receive the royal warrant, fan of rank, and monastic robes.
For residents and visitors, such ceremonies offer a glimpse into the traditional hierarchy and cultural significance of the Thai Sangha.
