Thailand and Laos Strengthen Environmental Cooperation to Combat Transboundary Haze
Thailand and Laos have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to enhance environmental management, including the donation of air quality monitoring equipment to address regional haze and wildfires.
On September 11, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that Gulf Energy Development PCL, represented by Sitamon Rattanawadi, donated automatic air quality monitoring equipment to the Lao People's Democratic Republic. This initiative took place during an official visit by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Linkham Douangsavanh, the Lao Minister of Agriculture and Forestry, to Thailand.
The donation coincides with the signing of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two nations focused on natural resources and environmental cooperation. Witnessed by Thailand’s Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Suchart Chomklin, the agreement aims to foster collaboration in managing air, water, and soil pollution, as well as climate change mitigation and disaster management.
For residents and travelers, this partnership is significant as it addresses the recurring issue of transboundary haze and wildfires that frequently impact air quality in the region. By improving monitoring capabilities and technical cooperation, both countries aim to better manage environmental health risks.
