Thai Government to Review 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' Tourism Stimulus on September 22
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports plans to propose the 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' scheme to the Cabinet, aiming to boost domestic travel with accommodation subsidies and spending coupons.
On September 11, 2026, Minister of Tourism and Sports Surasak Phancharoenworakul announced that the government will present the 'Thai Tiew Thai Plus' project to the Cabinet on September 22. According to Khaosod Online, the initiative is designed to stimulate the economy during the fourth quarter of 2026 and the first quarter of 2027.
The proposed scheme includes two primary benefits for domestic travelers. First, the government intends to provide a flat-rate accommodation subsidy of up to 2,000 baht per eligible person. If the room rate exceeds this amount, the traveler is responsible for the difference; if it is lower, the subsidy will cover the actual cost. Additionally, the program plans to offer spending coupons valued at 1,500 baht per person.
To protect consumers, the Ministry plans to implement strict measures against price gouging by accommodation providers. Businesses will be required to display current rates alongside those from the previous year to ensure transparency.
For travelers and residents, this program could offer significant savings on domestic trips. However, the proposal is still subject to Cabinet approval. Details regarding the registration process, specific eligibility criteria, and the official launch date remain to be confirmed following the upcoming Cabinet meeting.
