Thai Ministry of Commerce Targets Chinese Fresh Snack Market Growth
The Thai Department of International Trade Promotion is pushing to elevate Thai goods into recognized brands to capture a share of China's 200 billion baht fresh snack market.
According to a report by Thai Post on September 11, 2026, the Thai Ministry of Commerce has identified significant growth potential in China’s fresh snack sector, which is currently valued at approximately 200 billion baht. Sunanta Kangvalkulkij, Director-General of the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), stated that the agency has directed its overseas trade offices to accelerate the expansion of Thai products and services in international markets.
This initiative aligns with the policy set by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce Supajee Suthumpun, which focuses on identifying new trade opportunities and enhancing the competitiveness of Thai goods globally. The core strategy involves transitioning from generic 'Thai Products' to established 'Thai Brands' to increase market value and consumer recognition.
For residents and travelers, this shift suggests a potential increase in the availability and branding of premium Thai snacks within the Chinese market, which may influence export trends and local production standards. While the Ministry has outlined its strategic intent to capture this market share, specific timelines for the rollout of these branding initiatives and the exact list of participating snack categories remain to be confirmed. Observers will be watching to see how effectively these promotional efforts translate into increased market penetration for Thai businesses.
