Chiang Rai Launches Initiative for Safe Food and Community Well-being

Chiang Rai is implementing a new project to enhance food safety standards from local farms to consumers, supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth).

Chiang Rai province has launched the 'Safe Food, Balanced Well-being' project, an initiative aimed at strengthening local food systems and ensuring high-quality, safe produce for residents. According to Khaosod Online, the project is supported by the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and focuses on empowering farmers while improving the connection between producers and consumers.

Dr. Thassanee Thammatin of Chiang Rai Rajabhat University emphasized that access to safe food is a fundamental necessity for community health rather than just a policy goal. Dr. Pisit Sriprasert, a board member at ThaiHealth, noted that Chiang Rai was selected for this initiative due to its strong agricultural foundation and the presence of academic institutions capable of monitoring food safety standards. The Chiang Rai Municipality serves as a model for this program, having successfully integrated safety protocols into local schools, hospitals, and restaurants.

For residents and travelers, this initiative signifies a regional commitment to improving food quality standards. While the project has established a successful framework within the municipality, the extent to which these safety protocols will be expanded to more remote areas of the province remains to be confirmed. Visitors may observe increased emphasis on food safety in local establishments, though specific certification labels or widespread implementation timelines have not yet been fully detailed.
