EGCO Group Finalizes Stake Sale in Power Plants to J-POWER

EGCO Group has generated 2.8 billion baht by selling a 49% stake in the Ban Pong and Khlong Luang power plants to J-POWER.

According to a report by Thai Post on September 11, 2026, the Electricity Generating Public Company Limited (EGCO Group) has successfully completed a divestment deal. The company sold a 49% stake in the Ban Pong and Khlong Luang power plants to J-POWER, a Japanese energy firm. This transaction resulted in a recorded revenue of 2.8 billion baht for EGCO Group.

This move is part of the company’s 'Asset Recycling' strategy, which aims to enhance financial liquidity and provide capital for future energy projects. By offloading these assets, EGCO Group intends to pivot its resources toward developing new energy initiatives that align with future power demands.

For residents and travelers in Thailand, this development highlights the ongoing shifts in the country’s energy sector as major utility providers restructure their portfolios to focus on modernization. While the financial impact on the company is clear, the long-term effects on local electricity supply stability or potential changes in utility management remain to be confirmed. As the company continues to pursue its strategic roadmap, stakeholders will be watching to see which new energy projects are prioritized following this capital injection.
