Landslide Blocks Highway 1148 in Phayao Following Heavy Rain
A landslide triggered by overnight heavy rainfall has completely blocked Highway 1148 in Phayao province, halting all traffic toward Pha Chang Noi.
According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand on September 11, 2026, continuous heavy rainfall throughout the night has caused a significant landslide on Highway 1148, the route connecting Phayao and Pong districts. The slide has completely obstructed the road leading toward the Pha Chang Noi area, rendering it impassable for all vehicle types.
The affected section is currently undergoing road construction and improvement. Saturated soil from the adjacent hillside collapsed onto the road surface, accompanied by mud and runoff. Authorities have also noted that utility poles along the roadside have begun to tilt due to the pressure of the shifting earth, creating potential safety hazards for cleanup crews.
Local officials and relevant agencies have deployed heavy machinery to clear the debris and restore traffic flow as quickly as possible. However, because rain continues to fall in the area and the terrain remains steep, the situation remains fluid. Travelers and residents who rely on Highway 1148 are advised to exercise extreme caution and monitor updates from local authorities closely while the cleanup operation is underway.
