Thai Health Promotion Foundation Launches Wellness Initiative for Police Officers
The Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) and the Royal Thai Police have partnered to address the physical and mental health challenges faced by police officers.
According to a report by Khaosod Online, the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth) has launched an integrated wellness project for Royal Thai Police officers. The initiative aims to combat non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension, while addressing the high levels of emotional exhaustion and alcohol consumption reported among personnel.
Data cited by the report indicates that 66.6% of investigators in the Metropolitan Police Bureau experience high levels of emotional fatigue, while 88.2% report alcohol consumption. These figures highlight the significant health risks associated with irregular sleep patterns, night shifts, and the high-stress nature of police work. The project, titled 'Integrated Police Wellness Development for Behavioral Change and Systemic Drive,' utilizes the 'Happy Workplace' framework to provide holistic support covering physical, mental, and social well-being.
Currently, the program is being piloted in 20 units nationwide to develop a scalable model for the entire force. Dr. Pongthep Wongwatcharapaiboon, manager of ThaiHealth, stated that the project relies on data-driven health insights to guide interventions. For residents and travelers, this initiative reflects an ongoing effort to improve the welfare of public servants. It remains to be confirmed how the program will be expanded beyond the pilot phase and what specific long-term health outcomes will be measured over the next decade.
