Abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan Arrested in 92 Million Baht Embezzlement Case
Thai authorities have arrested the abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan and a close associate following allegations of massive temple fund misappropriation.
On September 10, 2026, Khaosod Online reported that police from the Crime Suppression Division arrested the abbot of Wat Phutthaisawan, identified as Phra Choti, following an arrest warrant issued by the Region 1 Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Cases on September 8, 2026. Authorities allege that over the past two years, the abbot misappropriated temple funds totaling more than 92 million baht. The investigation suggests these funds were transferred to a close associate, identified as 47-year-old Ms. Punyawee, who allegedly helped disguise the assets under other names.
