Songkhla Moves Closer to UNESCO World Heritage Status
Thailand’s National Committee on the World Heritage Convention has approved the submission of preliminary assessment documents for the 'Songkhla and its Associated Lagoon Settlements' site.
On September 10, 2026, the National Committee on the World Heritage Convention, chaired by Dr. Raweewan Phuridech, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, officially approved the draft Preliminary Assessment (PA) documents for the 'Songkhla and its Associated Lagoon Settlements' cultural site. The Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning (ONEP) has been tasked with submitting these documents to the World Heritage Centre in Paris before the September 15, 2026, deadline.
