Chinese Food Influencer Passes Away at 24

A popular Chinese food influencer known for extreme eating challenges has died at age 24, prompting discussions on health and digital content creation.

According to a report by Khaosod Online Thailand, Chen Ziyi, a 24-year-old Chinese food influencer known as Yingying or “Okok,” has passed away. Her family announced on social media on August 21 that she died on August 17. Yingying had amassed over 1.2 million followers, largely through content featuring extreme eating challenges, such as consuming 70 eggs in a single sitting to increase viewership.

Her final video, posted three days before her death, served as a poignant reminder to prioritize health over online engagement. Following the announcement, her social media accounts have been removed from search results, and her previously published videos have been deleted.

For residents and travelers in Thailand who engage with regional social media trends, this event highlights the growing scrutiny surrounding the risks associated with extreme content creation. While the influencer’s death has sparked widespread public concern, the specific medical cause of her sudden passing has not been publicly disclosed by her family. As of now, the circumstances surrounding her health leading up to the incident remain unconfirmed beyond the family's initial announcement. This case serves as a somber reminder of the potential physical toll of high-intensity digital performance.
