Authorities Raid Illegal E-Waste Warehouse in Chonburi
Officials in Chonburi discovered nearly 100 tons of hazardous electronic waste inside a warehouse complex, leading to the detention of 15 workers.
On September 10, 2026, a multi-agency task force, including the Chonburi Provincial Industry Office and local police, raided three warehouses in Nong Hong, Phan Thong district. The operation followed public complaints regarding the illicit handling of hazardous materials. Inside the facility, authorities found approximately 100 tons of electronic waste, including lithium batteries, circuit boards, aluminum, and plastics. Some of the electronic components were reportedly mixed with cement and packed into sacks.
During the raid, 15 Myanmar nationals were detained. Preliminary investigations indicate that while the warehouse lease was registered under a Thai individual's name, the operations were allegedly managed by Chinese nationals. Reports also noted that an unidentified individual attempted to contact the local sub-district administrative organization head to resolve the matter during the inspection.
