Parliamentary Committee Urges Navy to Resolve Equipment Issues Before New Frigate Deal

According to a report by Thai Post on September 10, 2026, the House Committee on Military Affairs has summoned the Royal Thai Navy to explain ongoing technical failures regarding the Phalanx CIWS system aboard the HTMS Bhumibol Adulyadej. The committee noted that the weapon system is currently non-functional due to a lack of spare parts, as the components have become obsolete.

Lawmakers have advised the Navy to negotiate with the South Korean firm Hanwha to resolve these existing maintenance issues before proceeding with the signing of a contract for a new frigate. The committee suggested that the Navy consider withholding insurance funds until the matter is rectified. Furthermore, the committee has issued a 14-day ultimatum for the Navy to submit detailed contract information, warning that failure to comply will result in a formal request for an investigation by the Office of the Auditor General.
