Oil Leak Investigation Halts Jet Fuel Pipeline Operations in Bangkok

Energy Minister Ekniti Promphan has directed Bangchak Corporation and BAFS Pipeline Transportation (BPT) to temporarily halt jet fuel transport through a pipeline connecting the Bangchak refinery to Don Mueang Airport and the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya oil depot. This directive follows the discovery of oil contamination in drainage systems near Chuea Phloeng Road and under the Rama 3 elevated bridge, located at the border of the Khlong Toei and Yan Nawa districts in Bangkok.

According to Khaosod Online, authorities have conducted initial excavations at two sites to locate the source of the leak. While oil residue was detected in the soil near the first excavation site, inspections of the pipeline itself revealed no visible cracks, rust, or structural damage. A second excavation site, located approximately 10 meters away, showed no signs of oil residue or pipeline compromise.

For residents and travelers in the area, the situation remains under investigation. While the immediate suspension of pipeline operations is a precautionary measure to prevent further environmental impact, the exact origin of the contamination has yet to be identified. Authorities are continuing their efforts to determine why oil appeared in the drainage system despite the lack of visible damage to the pipeline infrastructure.
