Parliamentary Committee Reviews Allegations Against Election Commission
A student and civil society network has petitioned a parliamentary committee to investigate the Election Commission of Thailand over alleged irregularities in the 2024 Senate selection process.
On September 10, 2026, a network of students and civil society members submitted a formal request to the House Committee on Courts, Independent Organizations, and State Enterprises. The group is calling for an investigation into the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT) regarding alleged lack of transparency in the 2024 Senate selection process.
The petitioners highlighted concerns regarding the current Senate selection system, noting that only 48,117 individuals participated in the voting process out of over 52 million eligible voters nationwide, representing approximately 0.09% of the electorate. The group argues that the professional group-based selection system lacks a genuine connection to the broader public.
Furthermore, the network reported that 229 individuals are currently accused of corruption related to the 2024 Senate selection. Among these, 138 are currently serving senators, accounting for more than two-thirds of the total. The petitioners are urging the committee to pursue legal action against the ECT and to request that the court suspend the accused officials from their duties.
