Thailand's Construction Material Price Index Rises Amid Global Energy Volatility

Thailand's construction material price index reached 113.1 in August 2026, marking a 6.1% year-on-year increase driven by rising energy and raw material costs.

According to a report from Khaosod Online Thailand, the Office of Trade Policy and Strategy (OTPS) announced that Thailand's construction material price index for August 2026 climbed to 113.1, representing a 6.1% increase compared to August 2025.

OTPS Director Nantapong Jiralertpong attributed this upward trend to ongoing geopolitical tensions, specifically citing U.S. economic sanctions against Iran and attacks on Russian energy infrastructure. These conflicts have caused significant volatility in global oil and energy prices, which in turn has inflated production and logistics costs across the construction supply chain.

Key sectors affected include concrete products, which saw a 9.6% price hike due to rising costs for cement, stone, sand, and diesel-dependent transportation. Wood and wood products rose by 4.5%, while tile prices increased by 4.0%.

For residents and travelers, this trend may signal potential delays or increased costs for infrastructure projects, property developments, or home renovations across Thailand. While the index provides a clear picture of current inflationary pressures, the long-term impact remains subject to the evolution of global geopolitical conflicts and their subsequent effect on energy markets. It remains to be confirmed how these sustained price increases will influence the broader Thai real estate market and the timeline for ongoing public transport or utility construction projects.
